Living alone in that lonely island Alexander Selkirk found himself entirely cut off from Society, Friendship and Love. In fact he was out of the touch of humanity. Society, Friendship and Love are God's gift to man. As a social animal man cannot live without these things. In that lonely island he was the only human being among the birds and beasts. He missed Society, Friendship, Love and other things found in human society. He remained cut off from religion and wisdom which are found in human society. Also he had no friend to cheer him with the sallies of youth.
